Foothills District Coaching Requirements
Becoming a coach is a rewarding opportunity to support and inspire young athletes. To ensure a safe, consistent, and positive environment for all participants, all coaches are expected to meet the following requirements.
Mandatory Requirements (1–4)
1. Vulnerable Sector Check
A valid Vulnerable Sector Check is required for all coaches.
- Valid for 3 years
- Transferable between different sports organizations
2. Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders
This is an online course designed to promote a safe and respectful environment in youth sports.
- Takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours to complete
- You can start, pause, and return to the course at your convenience
- Cost: $30 (may be subsidized to $20)

3. NCCP Number (National Coaching Certification Program)
This is your unique coach ID, required to track coaching credentials and course completions.
4. Canada Soccer Grassroots Coach Education – Coaching in Canada (eLearning Module)
- This online module provides foundational knowledge for all coaches.
- Takes approximately 45–60 minutes
- Available for free through the eLearning tab in The Locker (see #3)

5. Canada Soccer Age-Level Coaching Course – Online Portion
These specialized courses provide age-appropriate training for coaches based on the group they are leading.
- Completing the practical (in-person) portion of these courses is strongly encouraged.
- Registration: Grassroots Coaching Education Program
- Course Options:
- Fundamentals: Players aged 6–9
- Learn to Train (L2T): Players aged 9–12
- Soccer for Life (S4L): Players aged 13+
